MAEE Launches Hakathari Dashboard for Air Conditioners

The Maldives Association for Energy Efficiency (MAEE) has launched the Hakathari Dashboard for Air Conditioners, presenting key data and insights on registered air conditioner models under the Hakathari Program as part of MAEE’s ongoing efforts to promote public awareness on energy efficiency and sustainable cooling in the Maldives.

The Hakathari Program, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, is the Maldives’ national appliance energy efficiency standards and labelling program, introduced to guide consumers toward energy-efficient appliances and help reduce national electricity demand.

The Hakathari Dashboard, visualizes key market data including:

  • Importers registered under the Hakathari Program
  • Growth and market uptake of Hakathari-registered models and brands
  • Hakathari ratings of registered models (3★, 4★, and 5★)
  • Most efficient air conditioner models based on the Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor (CSPF)
  • Hakathari leaders by market capacity, highlighting top-performing models in each capacity category
  • Average CSPF by year, showing year-on-year improvements in cooling efficiency

Key Insights from the Dashboard

As of 31 August 2025, a total of 69 air conditioner models have been registered under the Hakathari Program, representing 8 brands and 6 registered importers.
State Trading Organization (STO) imports Hitachi air conditioners, while Asters represents TCL, AUX, Midea, and Akavee brands. Refcool imports Gree, Springcool represents Blue Star, Ranfaun imports Panasonic, and Red Wave represents Hisense.

In 2024, a total of 25 models were registered under the program, of which only 6 models achieved the top 5★ rating. In 2025, as of August, 30 new models have been registered, with 21 of them rated 5★, signaling a strong and steady shift toward more energy-efficient air conditioners in the Maldivian market.

Among the registered models, several air conditioners demonstrate outstanding performance across different market capacities, with STO’s Hitachi, Ranfaun’s Panasonic, and Asters’ TCL models achieving some of the highest Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor (CSPF) values, exceeding 6.0 W/W.

CSPF is a measure of how efficiently an air conditioner provides cooling throughout the year. In simple terms, a higher CSPF value means the air conditioner uses less electricity to deliver the same amount of cooling, making it more energy efficient.

The dashboard also highlights the importers leading the Hakathari Program with the most efficient brands and models in each market capacity. In the 9,000 BTU/h and 12,000 BTU/h ranges, STO’s Hitachi models achieved CSPF values of 6.30 W/W and 6.19 W/W, respectively. For the 18,000 BTU/h category, Ranfaun’s Panasonic model recorded a CSPF of 6.74 W/W, while in the 24,000 BTU/h range, Asters’ TCL model led with the highest efficiency at 7.02 W/W.

Through this initiative, MAEE continues to promote energy efficiency awareness, market transparency, and informed consumer choices, contributing to the Maldives’ broader transition toward sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.
