Hakathari Dashboard – Air Conditioners

The Hakathari Dashboard for Air Conditioners has been prepared to present key data and insights on registered air conditioners, as part of our efforts to increase awareness of the Hakathari Program.

The Hakathari Program, launched in September 2021 by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, is the Maldives’ national energy efficiency standards and labelling initiative. The program currently covers air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines. Appliances registered under the program are affixed with the Hakathari label, which visually indicates their energy efficiency level. The label empowers consumers to make informed choices, encourages importers to bring higher-efficiency products to the market, and contributes to national goals of reducing electricity consumption, lowering household energy costs, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Most Efficient Air Conditioner Models

Circles (●) highlight the most efficient model for each year within each Market Capacity. Diamonds (♦) represent all other registered models. Market Capacity (BTU/h) shows standardized sizes (9k, 12k, 18k, 24k) for easier comparison. Tested capacity may vary slightly from how manufacturers market the unit.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Filter by year and Hakathari rating. CSPF (W/W) indicates cooling efficiency β€” higher is better. In β€œAll Years” view, you may see multiple circles in the same capacity band β€” one for each year’s most efficient model.

Average CSPF by Year

This chart shows the Average Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor (CSPF) of registered air conditioner models by year, according to the Hakathari rating criteria.

CSPF is a measure of how efficiently an air conditioner provides cooling throughout the year β€” it represents the total cooling output divided by the total energy consumed. In simple terms, a higher CSPF value means the air conditioner uses less electricity to provide the same amount of cooling, making it more energy efficient.

Dotted reference lines indicate the minimum CSPF values required for Hakathari labelling β€” 3.10 W/W for units below 15,354 BTU/hr and 2.90 W/W for units between 15,354 and 24,226 BTU/hr.

πŸ’‘ Hover over the chart to view annual CSPF values and their year-on-year percentage change.
