The Maldives Association for Energy Efficiency (MAEE) participated in the stakeholder consultation on the revised draft Net Metering Regulation 2026, organized by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy on 11 August 2026.
MAEE Founder & Executive Director, Mohamed Inaz, participated in the consultation on behalf of the Association, sharing comments, concerns and recommendations on the proposed regulation aimed at strengthening its implementation and ensuring that the framework supports greater participation in renewable energy generation.
The consultation provided an important platform for government institutions, utility companies, private sector organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders to discuss the practical, technical and regulatory aspects of the proposed framework ahead of its finalisation.
MAEE welcomes the continued stakeholder engagement in strengthening the regulatory environment for distributed renewable energy in the Maldives. A well-designed net metering framework can help facilitate greater adoption of rooftop solar, encourage households and businesses to invest in renewable energy, and contribute to reducing the Maldives’ dependence on imported fossil fuels.
MAEE remains committed to contributing its perspectives and technical expertise to policy and regulatory processes that advance energy efficiency, clean energy adoption and a more sustainable and resilient energy sector in the Maldives.
